A long while later Evie did have to beg her to stop. Utterly exhausted and thoroughly sated she collapsed into the warmth and security of her loverâs tender embrace. She was vaguely aware of Aurora tucking a blanket over her back, a few murmured words and a gentle kiss then nothing more.
CHAPTER 19
WHAT THE HEART WANTS
When Aurora woke in the early morning hours she found Evie sprawled half on top of her. Evieâs head was on her shoulder, she had thrown a leg over and her right hand gently cupped Auroraâs breast. Evieâs breathing was deep and even and she looked so incredibly beautiful with her long braid trailing down her back, drawing the eye to her perfectly round butt cheeks while emphasizing her narrow hips and creamy skin. It still amazed Aurora that Evie was lighter colored than her even though she spent so much time in the sun. It was like her skin had set a limit on how much sun it would absorb and simply reflected the rest back.
Aurora thought of everything that had happened the previous night, of her nightmare and how talking to Evie about it had felt like a purge. She felt different somehowâ¦lighterâ¦hopeful. Yes, that is what it was. She felt truly hopeful that her life was about to take a better turn for the first time in years and it was all thanks to Evie.
As if hearing her thoughts Evie stirred, muttered something incoherent and her eyes fluttered open. She gave Aurora a dreamy half asleep smile and nuzzled the side of her neck. Aurora reveled in the sensation of Evieâs mouth against her neck and the feel of Evieâs naked body in her arms after what to her had been a spectacular night of lovemaking. If she could wake up like this every morning, she would be the happiest woman in the world. Evieâs hand tightened on Auroraâs breast and it made her breath hitch. She turned her head slightly and saw Evie was now fully awake and watching her.
âGood morning.â Aurora leaned in and gave her a tentative kiss not certain if that was the appropriate thing to do. She really wanted to kiss her but did Evie want to be kissed? Was this about to turn into one of those awkward after-sex affairs in which they would hurriedly dress in uncomfortable silence? She neednât have worried as Evie put a hand behind her head and deepened the kiss. Aurora responded with enthusiasm.
âThatâs better,â Evie said when they came up for air. âThatâs how I like to be kissed. You pecked me like we were cousins meeting at the dock.â
âI didnât want to be forward and assume too much. Weâve never had a morning after before.â
Evie snorted. âAfter everything you did to me last night a kiss is hardly forward. Sometimes you have such strange notions about things.â She moved her hand from Auroraâs breast to stroke between her legs making Aurora gasp. Instantly her body responded, coating Evieâs fingers with her arousal.
